GRADING POLICY
Marking Period grades for the concert bands are based on the following criteria
and percentages:
BEHAVIOR AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
(15 percent)
Instrument
Maintenance, Locker Condition, Behavior, Posture, Paperwork and Clerical Items,
Uniform Maintenance
PERFORMANCE AND REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE
(30 percent)
Attendance
at all pre-scheduled concerts and rehearsals per the September band calendar
BAND AND ENSEMBLE PREPARATION
(25 percent)
Personal
Music Preparation, Written Exams, Playing Exams, Preparation for Rehearsals
MARKING PERIOD ASSESSMENT
(30 percent)
Evaluation
on materials taught during Marking Period including Scales, Rudiments, Rhythm
Exercises, Tonal Exercises, Solos, Etudes, and Sight-Reading
CLASSROOM RULES AND REGULATIONS
FACILITY and
INSTRUMENTS:
- There is to
be no food, gum, candy, or non-water beverage in any area of the band wing.
The only beverage permitted is water.
- Practice
rooms are for practicing your musical instrument only; they are not private
study halls. Chairs and stands located in each room are not to be
removed. Garbage cans should be used and remain in each room.

All music equipment and property is to be well
maintained, respected, and kept in its proper storage area. Lockers must be
locked at all times with Instrumental Music Department issued locks.

To insure the proper maintenance and care of school
instruments, students who use school equipment are not to loan that
equipment to other students. If a school instrument is damaged due to
neglect, the student is responsible for all damages. (Please see the
Instrument Agreement Form.) Students will be issued a school
locker and padlock. You will be charged for losing your lock! Students
misusing their locker will lose their locker!
ATTENDANCE
and DECORUM:
- All students
are to be in their rehearsal room with their instrument, pencil, music, and
appropriate equipment at the time designated by their conductor.
Individual warm-ups should begin immediately. Students marked
late/absent will be dealt with based on the Roxbury School District’s
attendance policy located in your agenda book.
- Students are
responsible for attending all rehearsals and performances, as indicated on
the performance calendar. Only emergency situations with proper
documentation are the exceptions.

Appropriate classroom behavior and appropriate use of
class time is expected at all times in accordance with the guidelines set
forth in your agenda book.
Inappropriate behavior will
result in the following consequences:
1st time: a verbal reprimand and documentation.
2nd time: a verbal reprimand, documentation, and parent call.
3rd time: a verbal reprimand, documentation, meeting with parents;
possible exclusion from band.
- Proper
rehearsal techniques are required and expected at all times. These
include listening carefully and following directions; sitting with proper
posture; having your music organized; having your
pencil/music/instrument/appropriate equipment at all rehearsals; and being
courteous of others.
